Tax review for an Amazon expansion starts with the business entity, inventory locations and actual supply flows. The marketplace's tax collection is one input to that review, rather than a complete answer to the seller's obligations.
Map the transactions
List where the business is established, who owns the goods, where they enter the country, where they are stored and where they are delivered. Include transfers between warehouses and direct sales outside Amazon. Give the tax adviser the contracts and expected transaction flows.
Check the Canadian registration path
CRA distinguishes the normal GST/HST regime for qualifying goods from the simplified regime for certain cross-border digital supplies. Use its registration guidance to review the relevant path.
Import tax, sales collection and input-tax treatment are distinct questions. CRA's import and export guidance provides the framework for reviewing those facts. Do not assume that every import payment can be recovered by every business.
Check the EU scope
The EU One Stop Shop guidance describes schemes with defined eligible transactions. Determine which supplies fit the scheme and which stock, import or local registration questions need separate review. Keep the business's establishment and fulfillment arrangement visible in the analysis.
Reconcile marketplace collection
Amazon's US marketplace collection FAQ describes a defined platform function. Ask the adviser which registrations, returns and other taxes remain with the seller.
Keep a dated decision file
- Facts and contracts reviewed.
- Registration conclusions by jurisdiction.
- Import and sales-tax responsibilities.
- Platform reports used for reconciliation.
- Filing owner, review date and unresolved questions.
Revisit the file when inventory location, entity, fulfillment route or sales channels change. A generic multi-country tax table cannot resolve those business-specific decisions.
