How the calculation works

Contribution before ads = sale price − Amazon fees − product cost. Break-even ACoS = contribution before ads ÷ sale price × 100.

For example, a CAD 20 sale price, CAD 6 in Amazon fees and CAD 8 in product cost leaves CAD 6 before ads: a 30% break-even ACoS. At that level, the costs entered and ad spend use up the sale revenue.

Amazon defines ACoS as ad spend divided by ad-attributed sales. Use the same revenue basis for this calculation and your advertising report. Sales tax, pack sizes, discounts, returns and changing fees can affect the comparison.

This is a cost calculation, not a suggested bid. Leave room below the break-even point for expenses you have not included and for profit. Account overhead and the effect of advertising on sales need their own review.
